22.05.03 If you click here, you'll find yourself at a very interesting web site. It's owner comes from Czech Republic and is the author of a very interesting train sim software. A cross between a 3D cab ride simulator and the venerable Transport Tycoon DeLuxe (TTD), "VlakoSim" presents some fresh ideas and simple but quite adequate game play. Quite adequate if you take into account that the game is still in its infancy.
The main point at the moment are not the rather basic graphics but the ability to switch between typical isometric view of the action and a 3D view from the cab of your locomotive. That's not all. The package also contains an editor, which should help you in creation of trains, buildings, bridges, tunnels and other models. You can also create the terrain, lay the tracks or roads and do all sorts of things similar to what we were able to do with TTD. "VlakoSim" is definitelly a product, which should be watched closely and I suggest you download the latest version and try it for yourself. It's only 4 MB to download and it's free. Start downloading!
14.05.03 The box on the right shows one of the most beautiful (at least to me) electric locomotives from Germany. It is the venerable DB103 and it looks like it will have a major part in the next version of MS Train Simulator. Last time I got the US version of the MSTS box but this time I'll definitely go for the European version. This beauty is not to be missed. According to Microsoft's game site, MSTS 2 will be fully compatible with the fist version, which means all your investments into locos, rolling stock and routes will not go down the drain. You will be able to enjoy all the game assets to the full, which is very good news, indeed. Check the new info about MSTS2 by clicking here. Some new screens are available at GamesPaper site.
10.05.03 As I have finally found some time in my busy schedule I am now re-opening CroTrainz and hopefully the things will get back to what they used to be. Due to the unfortunate events at the BVE part of the forum I will not be hosting any BVE downloads - a decision, which I did not take lightly and which I may change in the future. In any case, BVE fans will be well catered for, on numerous other BVE sites. Look at the left part of the screens for the appropriate links.
It is time to look to the future and I must admit that it looks very bright, indeed, with two big names announcing the new versions of their train simulation software, which should be available this fall. If you happen to visit the E3 show in Los Angeles (14-18 May) you'll be able to see both products in their full glory.

From the land of down under comes Auran - the company which gave us Trainz and Ultimate Trainz Collection. The next in the series is Trainz Railroad Simulator 2004 and it promises to be the most exciting version of Trainz so far. Based on the new Jet2 3D engine (also developed by Auran) it will cover every aspect of railway - from the old steam powered beauties to the modern age diesel and electric behemoths. Full support for steam is not the only novelty. The list of features is very long but one feature is a true first in the era of modern PC game creation. Trainz Railroad Simulator 2004 is being developed with the active input of the Trainz community and many game assets will actually come from the users! Read all about it on brand new TRS2004 site by clicking here.
It was not first on the market but it really introduced software train simulations to the masses. Two years later Microsoft Train Simulator still represents a formidable force in the train sim area and commands a very large and devoted following. It is usual for Microsoft to update its simulation software every two years so it was not a surprise to learn that the second version of MS Train Simulator will be hitting our computers later this fall. It will include numerous improvements, new locomotives and rolling stock together with five brand new full length prototype routes. Click here to read more about the MSTS 2 and visit Gamespot web site where you can check a selection of screenshots showing some interesting details, which will be available in the sim.
